THE GIBBON'S TAKE: TALLGRASS BREW AT THE ZOO: A BIG SUCCESS
The inaugural event of Brew at the Zoo took place Friday evening, July 23rd at Sunset Zoo. The event was attended by 350 people. Co-sponsored by Tallgrass Brewing Company and Friends of the Zoo, the event raised more than $4000 toward the "Gibbon Experience" at Sunset Zoo. This new habitat will incorporate historical elements of Brownie the bear's former enclosure to create an environment where these endangered Asian apes can do what they like to do best: sing and swing. The zoo is expects to have the gibbons in their new home sometime in 2011.
"We had a great time and we can't wait to ramp this event up for next year. We had so much fun partnering with Tallgrass. It is great to work in such motivated company." said Allie Lousch Marketing Developement Officer.
Attendees of Friday's event received a commemorative glass, dinner from Cox Brothers BBQ, a concert from Nashville artists Jeff and Vida and the opportunity to sample all the beers from Tallgrass Brewing Company. Tallgrass Ale, IPA, Köld, Buffalo Sweat, and Oasis were all poured from cans to emphasize the fact that Tallgrass switched their packaging from bottles to cans in May of this year. Tallgrass determined that cans are not only better for the environment, but also better for the beer, allowing it to stay fresher, longer.
Nearly a thousand cans of Tallgrass beer were poured at Friday's event. 100% of the cans were recycled by Howie's Recycling.
"We are already talking about next year. We plan to make it even bigger and better." said Jeff Gill, founder of Tallgrass Brewing Company.
Tallgrass's next charity event is Brew to Shoe, Saturday August 7. This charity road race benefits "CHASEing a CURE, a organization helping 8-month-old Chase Gray's battle with cancer. |
